Hi, my name is Mich. I am a researcher and project manager focusing on conflict and security in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and beyond. I currently work as Senior Program Officer for swisspeace.
My interests encompass everyday security, policing, governance and the urban, topics on which I have authored more than a dozen policy reports, briefings, blog posts and newspaper articles. I have managed renowned research projects that have totalled over 30 studies on conflict dynamics in the eastern DR Congo. My forthcoming book is the first comprehensive, fieldwork-based account of the Congolese police, their everyday work and reform, and what these can tell us about the state.
I care about my work and those I work with and for. I value teaming up with peers and insist on public access to research findings. I have worked for universities and research institutes as well as for non-governmental organizations, development banks, and the United Nations in the Congo, Europe and the US.
My over twelve years of experience researching and project managing in and on the Congo have taught me that there is always more to observe, listen to and learn, to explore and enquire about, to consider, nuance and complicate.
Selected past work is showcased above. Don’t hesitate to reach out with new ideas, projects, collaborations or for a chat online, over the phone or in person.
